# Shalom Youth Centre

Channel 4’s recent coverage of Shalom Youth Centre

# **A place that turns up**

Grimsby was once the world's biggest fishing port. The boats are gone. The pride isn't.

But pride doesn't pay for school shoes. It doesn't sit with a fifteen-year-old who's stopped going to class. It doesn't tell a kid who's been called stupid all his life that he's anything but.

## **Who we're for**

The kids the system has stopped reaching. The ones who haven't been to school in three months. The ones who are told they'll never amount to much, by a curriculum that was never built for them and a town that's been hollowed out around them.

They are not the problem. They are smart, funny, loyal, and clear-eyed about the world. They can spot a phony from a mile away. They deserve so much better — all of them.

## **What happens here**

- **Somewhere to be.** Doors open, kettle on, no questions asked.
- **Someone in your corner.** Youth workers who know your name, your family, and what kind of week you've had.
- **A way back in.** Help with school, work, training, food, clothes — whatever's blocking the next step.
- **Family.** The kind that doesn't go anywhere.

## **Why give**

East Marsh sits in the bottom 3% of the UK for opportunity. Not because the people here lack ambition — because the ladders have been taken away.

Every pound you give keeps the lights on, the kettle hot, and a youth worker in the room when a kid walks through the door who has nowhere else to go.
